Hot Toddy: The True Story of Hollywood's Most Sensational Murder is a 1989 true-crime book by Andy Edmonds that investigates the tragic 1935 death of 1920s and '30s screen comedienne Thelma Todd.
The Official Finding: While a grand jury at the time officially ruled or closed the case regarding her death (often associated with suicide or accidental poisoning), suspicion and rumors persisted for decades.
The Author's Theory: Edmonds argues that Todd was actually murdered. The Mob Connection: The book links Todd's involvement in the restaurant business to notorious New York mobster Lucky Luciano, claiming a mob hitman killed her after she resisted ties to organized crime trying to infiltrate the West Coast.
